How admission works

Step by step, in the order you will meet it.

  1. 1

    Register for the IMAT

    Registration runs on Universitaly. You pay the test fee and list your universities in order of preference — an order that matters more than most students expect.

  2. 2

    Sit the exam

    60 questions in 100 minutes across biology, chemistry, physics and maths, logic and general knowledge. +1.5 for a right answer, −0.4 for a wrong one, 0 if left blank.

  3. 3

    Pre-enrol and validate documents

    Non-EU students pre-enrol on Universitaly and prepare a translated, legalised diploma with a Dichiarazione di valore or CIMEA statement — the file the embassy checks.

  4. 4

    Apply for your study visa

    A type D visa from the Italian embassy or visa centre in your country, with proof of funds, accommodation and health insurance.

  5. 5

    Follow the ranking

    Results come as a national ranking that moves for weeks as students accept or decline (scorrimento). We watch it with you and say when to enrol, wait or switch.

  6. 6

    Arrive and settle

    Apply for your permesso di soggiorno within 8 working days, get your codice fiscale, and claim your regional DSU scholarship with an ISEE parificato.
